Aletta Harrison
Aletta is a journalist and video storyteller with extensive experience in self-shooting as well as producing and directing on bigger projects. She has worked for 12 years in news, producing everything from short-form online news video to short docs.
Aletta started her career with the BBC in the Channel Islands before spending 10 years in Cape Town covering a wide variety of daily news and features, including high-profile events, natural disasters, sport and entertainment. But her biggest passion was always environmental issues and she won several awards for stories on topics such as drought, water pollution and marine poaching. As well as travelling extensively across South Africa, she has been on international assignments to Mauritius, Malawi and Uganda, where she covered the South Sudan refugee crisis. |
From 2017-2019, Aletta worked at News24, where she was responsible for overseeing online short documentaries and interactive features at the largest news site in South Africa and helped run a team of video journalists. During this time, she spearheaded the company’s first interactive 360 feature and managed several big projects.
Her work has appeared online and on television, both in South Africa and abroad, and clients include UNICEF, TRT World, Mongabay, Times LIVE, Primedia Broadcasting, Chronicle, Health-e News, GroundUp, Anadolu Agency and Moneyweb.
Since 2020, Aletta has lived in Kent, England where she is also a part-time lecturer at the University of Kent's Centre for Journalism.
